Why Are Fad Diets So Popular?

by Roshan Khan

With the obesity epidemic expected to affect over 50% of the worlds population, the age of 'dietary fads' and 'quick fix weight loss programs' has jumped to epic proportions. From the cabbage diet to the Zone Diet to the 48 Hour Miracle diet, every single one of these weight loss fads all claim to help you lose weight fast and increased energy.

But do they work?

On occasion... Aside from helping you to experience immediate water weight loss, the vast majority of dieters have reported little weight loss of just 1-2lbs before hitting a plateau.

More disconcertingly, once slimmers stopped eating these said diets they immediately regained all lost weight.

Can they harm your health?

Whilst it is true that some of the top celebrity can help you to experience fast weight loss, many are not safe for the foreseeable future

Limiting the amount of key nutrients required to ensure your organs is working at optimal levels, many involve lowering your calorie content to below 1,000 calories a day - if not less - more than 50% your nutritional allowance.

Accompanied by heavy sessions in the gym and unrelenting calorie checking, most of these diets run the health risk of leaving you feeling weak, fatigued, unable to think straight and more worryingly prevent your body from working efficiently - None of which are good for your long term health and ultimately your future ability to lose weight.

How can you spot a Fad diet?

Fad diets are easier to spot than you imagine. Promoting a 'quick fix' solution to your body concerns, you can easily spot a fad diet by their:

* Too good to be true claims

* Lack of clinical trials

* Deletion of one or more of the five recommended food groups

* Recommendations from trials without reviews from other researchers

When choosing a diet or slimming pill, it is vital to thoroughly research their studies first before adding them into your diet. If there is no medical evidence that they can produce real and credible weight loss, then they are too good to be true.
