Just get some ice, put it in a plastic bag, and wrap the bag with a cloth or a towel and place it on the bruise (take note it isn't a good idea to apply the ice directly to the skin). Another thing to do is to use a bag of frozen vegetables. It doesn't concern what kind of vegetable you have as long as they're frozen. A bag of frozen vegetables is easy to apply to the bruise because it can form to the shape of the injured area. Also, like a cold pack, it can be used and refrozen again and again.

A bruise is due to a rupture of blood vessels which allows the escape of blood into the interstices spaces between the cells and connective tissue below the outermost layer of skin. This leakage of blood from an injured blood vessel into the tissues forms into the colored marks that are called bruises . To help speed the healing of these bruises naturally, you should elevate the affected bruised area above shoulder height to decrease the flow of blood coming to the injured area.

Vigorous exercise may also cause bruises due to bringing about small tears in blood vessel walls. While normally caused by blunt impact, bruises or contusions can also result from pulled muscles, sprains, or other sporting injuries. To avoid these things happening, you should take the extra precaution of wearing appropriate protective gear before going into such activities.

Minor bruises are easily prevented and treated, but it's probably best to talk to a doctor if: A bruise doesn't disappear after 2 weeks. You bruise often and you haven't been bumping into something. Bruises seems to develop for no known reason. A bruise is getting more painful. Your bruise is swelling. You can't move a joint. The bruise is near your eye.
