Get Fit Without Going To The Gym With Combat Conditioning.

How do I know this? I'll tell you a little about myself first. My whole life, from my teenage years to current day, I have had to exercise. I played football and was also an accomplished martial artist while I was a teenager. I decided to add Combat Conditioning about 7 years ago when I found Matt Furey's program. Now, I'm not going to say I just use his program! Why not? Because fitness is about using all the tools available to you to trick your body! Believe it or not, your body gets into a rut when you just train one way. It develops a memory of it's own when you train and learns to expect what output is necessary in response to the stimulus it is receiving. To really improve and be fit you need to mix it up! I use many different programs (I'll be adding more reviews on those later) to trick my body into responding to different stimuli so it doesn't get into a rut. Combat Conditioning is a great addition to the workout toolbox!

Probably the best reason to use Combat Conditioning is that it is not only really powerful but also extremely portable. You can do the Royal Court anywhere and in minutes have completed a great workout that leaves you exhausted and dripping in sweat. All you need is your own bodyweight to do the exercises. Add in the Magnificent Seven and you're just done for the day. Better have some rehab planned and some protein ready.

The Royal Court and the Magnificent Seven are just two of the workouts in Combat Conditioning. There are many other exercises in the program that you can add in or substitute, all of them just using your bodyweight for the resistance. The possible combinations are endless.

Combat Conditioning is available in book or DVDs. I highly recommend the DVD format. The books are next to useless except for cheap gifts to your friends. The DVDs are available now for only $67. Progressive Jiu Jitsu: Learn Fast!

Everyone who wants to learn jiu jitsu knows how vital it is to learn quickly. For those of you who have been in training for awhile, you already know you have to progress quickly to survive. You probably already know a few moves like a sweep or a submission, but it is hard to get better because you can't use these moves on other people in your class. You can grapple for hours on end, but it's not making you progress quickly enough.

Here is the solution, and don't worry, it is not about mastering a new awesome submission or unbeatable guard that the other jiu jitsu students won't already know about. In order to progress, you are going to have to train with intention.

As you've undoubtedly heard before, if you do not make a plan you will not succeed. You have to develop a plan, PUT YOUR PLAN IN WRITING, and do something each day towards make your plan happen. You should not deviate from your plan until your reach your goal. Remember: PUT YOUR PLAN IN WRITING! You must believe me about this!

For many jiu jitsu students, the plan is to "get good at guard" or "get good at submissions". While this is a good start, you have to drill down and be much more specific. A more concrete goal would be something like "keep side control for at least 15 seconds on every opponent". Another would be "Bump sweep each partner". You will be able to measure your success and take actions toward meeting the goals. By setting small goals, you'll quickly be able to reach your larger goals.

It's time to mentally enter the BJJ arena. Develop a plan, a plan just for you, and work to meet your goals. Start every class reminding yourself of your personal goal and make it happen. You are not going to be better instantaneously, and patience will still be required, however you will get there! After you attain a few of your smaller goals, you will recognize your success and you will ask yourself why you didn't start doing this sooner.

Beginners Jiu Jitsu: Defend Your Guard At All Cost!

While there are many tips for preserving your guard - don't let an opponent control your knees, get an angle on you, press your legs down, etc. - there is one that I frequently see beginners not applying properly. Head control is critical in retaining guard.

You see, as an opponent passes their head will generally go to one side and they will move their hips to the same side to reach side control. If they are smart they will control your legs and/or hips to prevent you from hip escaping away. However, if you are able to take control of his advance, you won't even let him pass at all.

As your opponent starts passing to the right, push his head in that same direction. This is going to make a bit of a gap between the two of you, enabling you to prevent him from getting side control. This does not have to be a hard shove, but you should make sure it is firm by putting your hand to his cheek or your arm to his neck.

When you shove his head, shrimp out toward the left. You'll use your hips and legs way more than your arms; pushing his head is more about controlling his position to allow you to escape. Once you get enough room, find your center and get your opponent in your guard again. Depending on his progress and control over your hips/legs, you may need to hip escape more than once. Make sure you are prepared for his moves and react properly.

Remember that learning all of these little jiu jitsu tricks takes time and you have to patiently learn them and apply them. You won't become an expert overnight, but you will get better! Practice them, get good at them, and consider it one more tool in your BJJ belt of goodies.

A Combination Of Grapefruit And Prescription Medication May Be A Deadly Mix

Drinking grapefruit juice can be deadly for people who take certain medications, according to a recent paper. In this particular case, the fatal interaction is believed to be between the grapefruit and Lipitor.

This casualty had elevated cholesterol and other risk factors for heart disease. Because of this, doctors put him on Lipitor and he began a diet and exercise program to get improved. Two weeks after going to Florida for the winter, he went to the infirmary complaining of muscle trouble, exhaustion and fever. That's where he went into kidney stoppage and passed died. Although experts know the trouble exists, the majority of people and doctors are still in the dark about the fatal risks, even though the FDA requires all prospective novel drugs to be tested for interactions with grapefruit juice. A caution about grapefruit juice is included in the food and drug interactions that come with many of medications.

Since grapefruit juice is metabolized by the same enzyme in the liver that breaks down many drugs, it is one of the foods most likely to cause problems with drugs. When the system is overloaded, scientists said the grapefruit juice can "swamp" the system, keeping the liver from doing its complete job and blocking it from breaking down drugs and other substances.

Scientists say that the worst effects are likely with some statin drugs. While the liver spends its resources to the grapefruit juice, the medication can build up to very dangerous levels. This causes a breakdown of the body's muscles and can even lead to kidney failure. This eventually can lead to an untimely death.

So here is a tip. If you are taking any prescription medication especially when it comes to statin drugs, be sure to ask your primary doctor about the possible interactions with grapefruit juice. You should also read the warning labels on your medication bottle. Even though there may be a lot of fine print in these labels, it could make the difference between life and death.

Exercising - Do You Ever Have A Good Excuse Not To Exercise?

Many would agree that it is much easier to gain weight than it is to lose weight. The same goes for exercise; it is much easier not to do it than to take the time to do it.

Exercising takes time and persistence. It is great to form as a habit, and is definitely a healthy one to have. Many people have unhealthy habits. Habits that are bad for you are much easier to continue than they are to get rid of. Often, making exercise a habit usually means you have to get rid of another habit to make way.

Instead of incorporating exercise into their regimen, many people instead come up with poor excuses as to why they can't do it. Any excuse not to exercise isn't acceptable. There is always a way.

When it boils down to it, the only reason you haven't been exercising is because of you. No one else is to blame, and you can't say you don't have enough time. There is always time to exercise, and there is always a way to fit it into a schedule.

I know I've come up with several excuses as to why I can't exercise. My favorite ones are, "I don't have time for it", "I'll start tomorrow", and, "I'm too tired to exercise". These are classic excuses that many people besides me use.

Don't put it off any longer. It is hard to exercise, and it may bring you pain to start a fitness regimen. However, when you don't do it, you are hurting yourself and your body, so the pain of exercising is worth overcoming.

What if you don't have enough energy to exercise? Many people when they come home from work can hardly think about doing anything but taking it easy. Working out helps your body deal with stress better, which will help to give you have more energy. If you want more energy, in the long run working out will help.

Starting can be the hardest part for many people. If starting isn't hard enough, it is even harder for others to actually keep going. Many people eat well, and exercise well for a couple of days and then throw it all out the window and fall back into old habits.

It takes time to establish a habit. The idea is to continue to exercise and eat healthy, and if you fall off the horse for a day, instead of falling back to your old ways, jump back on the horse and keep trotting along. Don't let a few days of unhealthy choices keep you from continuing your course. Stay on your journey towards better health and keep pushing forward, because the journey never ends.
