Benefits Of A VLCD (Very Low Calorie Diet)

One reason Americans tend to be overweight is because they consume far more calories than their body actually needs, says Dr. Anju Mathur, who runs the Angel Longevity Medical Center in Los Angeles. A low-calorie diet could be the answer, as she explains here.

In a research study done on rats, one group of animals was fed a very low calorie diet and the other group was fed a normal rat diet. The rats on the very low calorie diet lived about one and a half times longer than the normal lifespan of a rat. The theory developed from this research is that excess calories actually cause the body to age faster. So a very low calorie diet can prolong life.

VLCD Theory

The theory of a VLCD, or Very Low Calorie Diet, predicates itself on not consuming more calories than the body needs. The Slim and Trim Protocol involves very low caloric diet. The reason we do that is because the hCG hormone, which is a cornerstone of the protocol, itself is based on converting body fat into energy. In other words, you are consuming your own fat for energy, so you do not need to eat so much food.

When a patient starts the diet and daily injections of hCG, he or she can lose up to a pound of fat a day. A pound of fat is converted into 3,000 calories, so with that many calories to run the body, a patient needs only consume 500 calories. Dr. A. T. W. Simeon original researched this procedure in the 1960's.

Combating Empty Nutrition

Dr. Mather mentions she regularly sees people who eat for two - over 5,000 calories a day. Fast food is rampant, and every portion is huge, because food is cheap. However, most of the food contains little nutritional value, but it does contain toxins, which are stored in body fat.

So a very low caloric diet combined with a hormone shot breaks up the fat in the body and coverts it into energy, with no negative side effects. It only works in conjunction with the hormone shot. If you only do the low caloric diet it is called starvation, as you do not have the energy you need to perform the normal physiological functions of the body.

When only a very low calorie diet is used, the body will use up structural fat and protein of muscles to make energy. Since the body needs this fat and muscle, the body just starves, and the extra pounds do not come off.

A low calorie diet without the hormone just starves the body. The hormone hCG breaks down the stored fat, thus allowing a person to lose weight on a very low calorie diet. This research has been done since 1968, and has since been refined and is now available to everyone at Angel Longevity Medical Center.
