Most people today would like to lose a couple of pounds. If you count yourself as a member of these ever growing club, then you are aware of he extraordinary amount of information available today. One thing is for sure, in order to lose weight and keep it off, you'll need some combination of diet and exercise. In this article, I'll be talking about exercise.

The goal of exercise should be to increase your metabolism, so that your body burns more energy twenty four hours a day. And of course, the best way to do this is to maximize your metabolism, with the least amount of effort. Here I'll show you how to do just that.

This is where most people can easily be misled. Most of us assume that if something is good, more is better. And if more is better, then a lot is really better. So some of us spend hours every day on the treadmill. This isn't the best way to get a fat burning metabolism. There are other ways which require much less effort.

The best exercises to do are the ones that work your entire body. All of your large muscle groups with high repetitions, and low resistance, or weight. When you increase your lean muscle mass, your metabolism will shoot through the roof.

Some exercises that are absolutely ideal for this are body weight exercises. These are those exercises that you hated so much in P. E. class back in junior high school. Push ups, sit ups, squats, neck and back bridges. And if you know how to do any yoga, that is a fantastic way to increase your metabolism. One great thing about these exercises is you don't need to join a gym or buy any special equipment. You can do them in the privacy of your own home, even in front of the TV if you like.

Once you start doing just a few minutes of these a day, you'll be completely amazed at how quickly you will see results. And once you start to see just a few small results, you'll be hooked for good, and on your way to life long fitness and health.
