A single diet to lower cholesterol does not help everyone the same way. Low-cholesterol diets include foods rich in fiber and low in saturated fats. Are those the type of foods in your current diet?

One of the best ways to reduce cholesterol is to change the food you eat. The primary factor to control is the amount of total saturated fat in your diet. Saturated fats comes primarily from meat or dairy products.

Start keeping track of exactly how many grams of saturated fats you are eating each day. You should limit your fat intake between twenty and thirty percent of the total number of calories you consume daily. You will need to monitor your cholesterol levels to see which percentage works best for you.

Eating fruits and vegetables on a daily basis will keep your levels down and reduce the risk of developing heart diseases and cancers. Soy based vegetarian diets will greatly reduce cholesterol as long as you limit the amount of cheese you use on this diet. Remember, animal by-products are high in saturated fat.

The answer to an effective diet for lowering cholesterol are fiber rich foods. Foods such as spinach, broccoli, lentils, beans, oatmeal, nuts and whole grains contain rich fiber, which are very effective at removing cholesterol from your body. Foods high in soluble fiber will assist in reducing blood cholesterol. These are the types of foods to include when cooking your daily meals.

Staying on a special diet to lower cholesterol is not hard. On your next trip to the grocery store, remember to read the labels and choose only the products that are low in saturated fat and high in fiber. You can ask your doctor to assist you in planning your new diet or he may suggest you work with a dietitian to help you develop a meal plan that will fit into your lifestyle.
