What Liposuction Really Does

by Sharon Roosevelt

Liposuction is one of the most preferred aesthetic procedures today. This operation, which is also known as lipoplasty or simply lipo, is a relatively easy means to lose fat. However, a lot of people often have misconceptions about it, and have often abused this surgery. If you are planning on having liposuction, you must be in your perfect weight already even before having the surgery. Learn more about the process before you said yes to it.

Lipo is a cosmetic surgical operation that involves the suctioning of the fat out from specific regions of the body. While others wrongly label this process as a weight loss operation, liposuction is actually an operation that redefines the shapes of the body parts that have persistent fat deposits.

If you are aiming to lose 20 or 30 pounds, this procedure is not for you. This does not eliminate your unwanted pounds. The fats that will be taken out may just be around 10 pounds at most. A higher amount is also feasible, but that would also mean bigger health danger. Hence, liposuction is preferably done to patients who already are within their model weight but just have "problem" parts.

An ideal patient for liposuction is someone who doesn't smoke, healthy, and has firm and good skin elasticity. It's true that age doesn't matter here. But older patients may not achieve the same outcome as younger ones who have firmer skin This is because once the fats have been sucked out, the skin, without good elasticity, may sag.

Be sensible with your expectation. Understand that lipo doesn't improve cellulite. What it does is it takes out the fat deposits under the cellulite.

It would take around six months to fully recuperate. After the surgery, swells and bruises appear immediately. The bruises can remain for a few weeks, but the swells take longer, around 2 to 3 months. It is best to avoid any exhausting and vigorous activities such as sports while you convalesce.

The full effect won't be visible until after a long period. It normally takes around 3 months before the outcome can be seen. Bear in mind that post-operation checkups with your physician is required.

Liposuction is not a weight loss surgery but a contouring operation. Always observe healthy eating habits before and after the process to achieve ultimate outcome.
